How “The New Look” Canteen Menu Works
To comply with the NSW Canteen & Healthy Kids Assocation’s policies traffic light strategy we have colour coded our new menu.
All foods have been highlighted in GREEN, AMBER or a combination of BOTH COLOURS to indicate what category they fall under.
What Is The Traffic Light Strategy?
The traffic light strategy basically works the same as a set of traffic lights on the road.
GREEN – stands for GO foods you can eat as much as you want to. In fact it is suggested that we fill the menu with green foods.
AMBER – stands for WITH CAUTION foods which are okay to eat but in moderation. In fact it has been suggested that these foods do not dominate the menu and to select them carefully.
RED – stands for STOP foods we are no longer allowed to sell in school canteens every day. In fact it has been suggested that school canteens can only offer these foods occasionally twice per term on special occasions.
AMBER AND GREEN COMBINATIONS – To make our AMBER choices a healthier option we have combined them with a snack salad tub, consisting of cherry tomatoes, carrot chunks, cucumber chunks and red capsicum strips. (addition cost).
Suggest to your child to try our yummy healthy choices. The Salad Boxes, Sushi Boxes, Sandwiches & Wraps are all made kid friendly and if need be you can omit some salad items if you wish and have them replaced with extra of what they like.
How Does The Canteen Know What Colours To Categorise The Foods In?
By following suggested guidelines in accordance with Healthy Kids and Fresh Tastes @ School Buyers Guide.
